The Studio Art Gallery - Exhibition Header - Archetypal Memories - Lolly Hahn-PageArtist Statement

‘Seeds of Life’, oil on canvas, 90cm by 90cm.

As Wassily Kandinsky said in 1914, “Colours on the painter’s palette evoke a double effect: a purely physical effect on the eye which is charmed by the beauty of colours, similar to the joyful impression when we eat a delicacy. This effect can be much deeper, however, causing a vibration of the soul, or an ‘inner resonance’… a spiritual effect, in which the colour touches the soul itself”.

“All my life I have loved the magnificence of NATURE … its colours, variety of shapes and its spirit….and I am constantly fascinated by the enormity of the life-giving forces behind it all…

  • From distant views to microscopic cell forms
  • From extreme opposites  ….  (such as from the larger cosmos to very personal inner visions, feelings, memories, and interpretations)
  • And our unconscious and mutual ARCHETYPAL MEMORIES

I believe that we all carry these observances with us, on a daily basis, (in our dreams as well) and that if given enough quiet time, to look, see, think…and then contemplate our responses, we then go on to tell stories to others, about the way we see things. We often want to share these discoveries and memories with others…. but HOW? Some people write…Some people talk…Some people use shapes and colours and paint. I choose to paint, hoping to share my perspectives with you, the audience.”
