David Van Der Merwe

Born in 1961 on the outskirts of Johannesburg, RSA, David’s childhood blended urban and rural experiences. With a background in Industrial Design and Engineering, his career spans four decades, marked by a talent for infusing artistry into products. Since 2016, he and his family have called RooiEls near Cape Town home. This locale profoundly influences his work, found in galleries and homes worldwide. Beyond sculpting, he enjoys sea kayaking and navigating dirt roads, sharing his studio with his wife and daughter, Sonet, and marketing expert Danielle. His art is guided by an unyielding commitment to creating, drawing inspiration from nature and imagination, aiming to evoke emotion. As a conservationist, he hopes to inspire a positive outlook towards our third planet from the Sun.
